Through the Lens.

A 5 Day Training to develop filmmaking and storytelling skills.

Learn how to tell your story through film

This training has been designed to take someone with very little knowledge of filmmaking and get them to a place where they can use a camera to create high quality videos for their company or brand.

The training covers the basics of filmmaking and does not require a background in using cameras or photography.

If required we can tailor the training more to cover more of what you need as a company.

We can also work with you to discern what your camera and editing software needs will be and train you on those specific requirements.

SCHEDULE.

In our training a great amount of focus is spent on efficiency and production value. We’re always looking to get the best quality. The Through the Lens training will take you 1 on 1 through this process so by the end of the week you can use your camera to create great stories for your company or university.

DAY 1: Storytelling through Film - There’s a lot of theory to making films, even if they are just short and educational. Maybe they are for marketing, or maybe they are an interview. In this section we look at how we put films together and how they are made before they’re even filmed.

DAY 2: The Technology - In this section we look at both the video and audio of making films. We cover the cameras we use and the settings they need to get great quality. We look at a range of cameras for video and a range of microphones for audio. This will be about getting used to the technology before Day 3.

DAY 3: Capturing Video - In this session we head out to capture a film that we storyboarded on Day 1. We use the cameras in the field and look at how we make sure it’s high quality even when the weather and timings might be against us. We also look at how we shoot interviews and people talking to camera to make sure we get across what we want to say.

DAY 4: The Edit - Films are made in the edit process. We need to know how to import all the data we shot, as well as how we organise them and get them in to our editing software. We’ll then look at all facets of the editing software and end the day with a fully formed video to upload.

DAY 5: Further Techniques - In filmmaking, variety is important. Here we look at a few more techniques that are vital to the filmmaking process. We look at how to properly use tripods, how we use gimbals, and create timelapses. We also look at voice overs.

PROJECT: We then set a project for you to accomplish within the next month. You’ll have to sit down create a concept and story board a video. Arrange logistics and go out and shoot it. Then edit and upload it within 1 month for review.

REVIEW: We then have a review session where we look at the film and see what can be improved and whats been done well. This is an opportunity to ask more questions and cement what we’ve learned.
